I Love My Job

I thought I was done with painting for a while. A store near a skiing resort was the last one I was going to get out of...trying to make my business smaller.
Then my husband said, "I know we've talked about this before but that store is the only one that sells well in the winter and you have a ton of stock in your studio, so why not give the stock to her and let her sell them...."
My only reason for giving up the store truly is the fact its hours away and a full day trip to stock the store. I started there when I skied and I was there every week in winter. For the last 6 years since my first knee replacement I haven't been there very often. I used to go down with my friends but it hurt my heart that I couldn't be on the slopes...
I love the store, so interesting and all hand made by local artists, It is a busy place during the winter and she makes lots of money for me...
So I am going to stock her store. I will keep her as a client as long as she is happy with me not showing up often. I will take someone with me to make it a fun day away, not just business...
Once I deliver than I need to start building stock for the summer for my local stores.. So I will be painting but without a deadline so that is a good thing..
I delivered wine signs to a winery yesterday. I had the staff laughing out loud. Three of the new funny ones are in the photo above.. I do serious wine signs too, they all sell but I like laughing better...

If I was a drinker I would love those signs.

I do make good money and gave up leaving the house to work when I realized how profitable it can be. Glad you like them.

It must be a lot of work that goes into these @PainsOnSlate although I do understand that you enjoy that kind of work.

@rebelann yes and still do, Down to only two now that aren't wineries, one an art store and the other a high end gift store in a Tourist area.

@DianneN some are but they won't stay mine with the internet, I've seen my slate on Pinterest. People who buy my slate add it to their pages.I don't put my best stuff on the internet... I do look there too for ideas.

@PainsOnSlate Too bad you couldn't copyright your work. The internet is awful for that type of stuff, but it's cool that people love your work!

Part of the deal is for me to deliver, I don't mind delivering locally but I tend to not like the long hauls...and they are too heavy to mail. Before I used slate i used old box wood which was light and I did mail the far away stock back then.

@miniam It doesn't work that way, she is the store owner and I am the seller so I have to deliver one way or another. i don't mind delivering but that trip is a long one. But she makes money for me so I will keep her stocked this winter again. Hubby will go with me and buy me lunch...

I am downsizing my business just because I want more play time. I still make a lot of money so life is good.
