The Rentals were formed by former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp who remains the band’s only remaining original member. It is surprising the Rentals are still around considering “Friends of P” was their only “hit” from their debut CD “The Return of the Rentals.” “If you’re friends with P Well then you’re friends with me “If you’re down with P Well then you’re down with me” Who is P? Sharp wrote the song about former supermodel Paulina Porizkova who is married to the Cars’ Ric Ocasek, producer of Weezer’s first CD. The song charted at #82 on Billboard Hot 100 but #7 on Modern Rock. “Woo woo hoo” goes the girl chorus while Sharp sings the praises of P. Driven by a strong beat, “Friends of P” was a fun song amidst gloomy grunge.
