Strange happenings in the car Park.

Greece

After church this morning we stopped off to pick up a McD’s apple pie. I stayed in the car in the parking area while my husband went in to McD’s. As I sat there I saw an odd thing. A huge lorry was parked nearby and a woman was squatting and washing clothes in a bowl. The bonnet was opened at the front of the lorry revealing a clothes line strung inside the bonnet which she proceeded to fill with washing stretching across the front of the engine! Whether the engine was hot enough to dry the clothes or the line across the bonnet was catching the breeze I’m not sure. My husband was a long time returning with the apple pies and when he did he said he had to help a man who had dropped his keys into the gear box of his car! He was also in the parking lot. After much struggling culminating in a rather red wrist my husband managed to retrieve the keys from a very relieved man. Usually we go for coffee after church but our change in routine was a diversion in more ways than one. We came home with cold pies….

I heated them in the oven and ate them with icecream! It was an immense lorry with plenty of room for a place to sleep, in view of the washing I imagine they had been on the move for some days.

Why didn't you get out and had a closer look at the washer woman?

That would have been rather awkward I think, besides which they were probably Polish from the writing on the side of the lorry.

How eventful the time spent in the parking lot was. A little adventure for both of you.

It certainly gave us something to talk about on the drive home.

About that woman is the oddest thing I have ever heard. You would think she was living in that parking lot. Couldn't you heat up the pies at home?

I reheated the pies when I got home. I think they were parking for several hours at least as the man took their leftover food and dumped it in the trash bin and then he went into the restaurant presumably to use the toilet...

@41CombedaleRoad I am just saying - not every day will go as we plan. Sometimes we get pulled to another path

What a funny place to see a clothes line. I have dropped some things into tight spots in the car. Very frustrating. That was kind of your husband to help

My husband is a problem solver, the man was lucky that he was there to help.

That is rather odd isn't it, drying clothes over the motor that way but I guess it may be the only place when you live in a lorry!!

They were mobile campers in a way, although the lorry was the size of several caravans.

Odd things happen around us if we stop and take the time to do nothing, but simply look around.

Your comment reminds me of a line of poetry 'What is this life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare' except that in this case I was sitting in a car...

@41CombedaleRoad We live our life at a full speed. I know that we miss plenty of interesting facts not stopping to look around.

I suppose if you live on the road you have to get creative with the laundry. Your husband was a good Samaritan, well done to him.

I wonder where she got her hot water from? Or perhaps it was a cold wash.

Your hubby was a good man to help that man out. But sorry to hear about your pies had gotten cold.

The man was afraid to drive off to a garage for help in case the keys fell down even further.

@KristenH He certainly needed it, it has awful if things go wrong when you are alone and there is no one to help.

That does seem very strange. When we were travelling the motor-home I used to dry socks on the dashboard. The sun through the glass made quite an effective dryer.
