We voted and dropped the ballots off yesterday

In fact, I read this morning that 14% of eligible voters have turned in their ballots already. I am not sure if they begin counting ballots yet, but I know that no results will be announced until the night of the election, November 8th. We had a few state and local ballot measures to vote on, the most controversial being a measure to impose a 2.5 % tax on corporations with sales exceeding $25 million in the state of Oregon. Needless to say corporations are against it. Corporations like Comcast and Kroger's have spent $35 million fighting this measure. To me, that means it must be a good thing for the state. We have the third lowest high school graduation rate in the nation. That is disgusting. The tax would put $3 billion a year for state government. I am for it and posted on FB with a big sign over my face, lol.

I voted a couple of days ago in the early voting option. There was a long line which is a good thing.

Good on ya for voting. We put our ballots in the mail just a bit ago. Sure feels good to not have to worry about that chore.

@JamesHxstatic I signed up when I turned 18 (which was a few months after they changed the law). I felt we fought for that right so I wasn't going to not sign up. I think I missed a couple times in my younger years when I moved around a bit. Before they went to the mail-in ballots I used to work at polling sites. Can't say that was a lot of fun at times. On days when it was just local things on the ballot it was long and boring days with very few people coming in. We had to be at the voting site at 6 a.m., open at 7 a.m. and could not leave until we closed at 8 p.m. Then we had to take all the ballots to a drop-off place where we had to turn them over to people who loaded them in trucks and took them to where they were counted. So our day ended at about 9 p.m. When they went to mail-in I was asked to work where they counted the ballots but by then I was back to full-time work so I turned them down.

Good luck with your very wise ballot measure. These huge companies have enough cash lying around to buy other huge companies, they can certainly afford to pay their fair share.

I think so. There are a few Oregon bases companies in that bracket (Nike, Adidas) but most are headquartered out of state. We have no sales tax. People have voted against it at least nine times since I have lived here, though it was limited to 3 to 5 %. I was always for it.

@JamesHxstatic Some states have only income taxes. Some have only sales taxes. Some, like California, have both. Guess where it's more expensive to live?

I voted today. We have several things to vote on. I think the most controversial one is on raising the state's minimum wage up to $13.50 an hour. It will raise in steps. Right now it's $9.47. If this passes it will jump up to $11 in 2017, $11.50 in 2018, $12 in 2019 and $13.50 in 2020.

I'd vote for that tax. because my ballot was mailed to me in another country, I didn't get to vote on anything but the pres and the senate and house... (via N.Y. where I first voted.)
