Do people still us savings account.I have one as they pay a measly .25 interest I have one and used this as a raining day money for me. I know that the interest rates are horrible. It has been this way for many years. I used to do business with Ally Bank and they have one of the highest interest rates.Right now on savings is 1.00 .Also they have one of the highest CD. But I stop and at one time got tired of it. I should have stuck with them. Do you have one and CD etc.Tell us about it. photo is public A savings account is one of the simplest types of bank accounts available to consumers, letting you store cash securely and earn interest on your money.

I have mine earning 5% in a Netspend account. The 5% is on balances up to $1000, and the rest is in a savings account with PayPal Prepaid since that pays 5% with no cap on balance.

I have both a savings and a checking account. Not a whole lot in either - ha ha. I bank at a credit union but the interest is not much different from the banks.

My bank puts one dollar into my savings account every time I write a check and one dollar every time I use the debt card. We are going to leave it in there until it reaches a thousand dollars and than get something that we need with it.

Our savings are spread out strategically so that they can continue to earn us good interest so that one day we will be able to enjoy retired living. We keep a little in a rainy day fund at a credit union, its more convenient then high paying for the interest, but we rarely take anything out of it-thankfully!

I am not a good saver any more... I used to be able to save, so I would save if they had such a thing as a spender acct would be me.

I get more interest on the credit I have in my electric/gas account than interest on the money in my savings account! But yes, I have one. I read something the other week that said thirty-somethings in the UK have an average of just £100 in savings. Yikes. I have more than that, thankfully. :)

You still have to have some sort of banking account (savings or checking) for automatic deposits from employers, social security etc.

Plenty of options where you live, @DesirousDreamer! A lot of banks are still offering promotional bonuses for signing up for their accounts. I usually get one from Chase in the monthly ValPak envelopes. I think the last one was for a $100 bonus when you open the account and have a certain amount direct deposited.

@amadeo It is a credit union, so they do not really do that.

I agree that savings account yield too low to be felt. It is just like putting your money in the piggy bank. If I wanted my money to put into action, I'd rather invest it to business or in stock market.

With interest rates being so low at present there is talk in the UK about some banks actually charging savers to store their money for them!

Almost everyone I know still has a savings account. The interest rates are never high for any savings account. Anytime I get money I split it in half and put half in my savings and half in my checkings account. I always save up my change too and that always goes into my savings account when I cahs it in.
