With Halloween just two days away, it's time for a miniseries of my favorite Halloween songs. In this case, I've narrowed it down to two, and we're at #2: "Halloween" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Siouxsie and the Banshees are one of my all-time favorite bands, and show up regularly in the music series' that I do here on MyLot. They formed in 1976 and released 11 studio albums during their career. Because their entire output was outstanding, it's a difficult call, but my favorite Banshees album is 1981's Juju, widely considered their "goth" album ("post-punk" and "art rock" have also been used to describe the record, according to Wikipedia. The truth undoubtedly lies somewhere in between.) "Halloween" was written by bassist Steven Severin, and was not released as a single. In fact, it doesn't even appear on either Banshees live album, 1983's Nocturne, or 2003's Seven Year Itch. You will have to find 2009's live compilation, At the BBC, for a couple versions, including a John Peel session. Still, it's a favorite Halloween song, a classic in it's own right. Happy Halloween!
