Recently, @FourWalls and myself did both a "Girl" and a "Boy" songs series. She is now doing "Women" songs, while I spun off in a different direction. I'm doing Favorite "Guy's Name" Songs, songs that contain a dude's name in the title. #10 is the legendary glam band T-Rex and their tune "Telegram Sam."
Led by the late Marc Bolen, T-Rex formed in 1967 in London. They were a psychedelic glam rock band, famous for their hit "Get it On," notably covered by The Power Station. T-Rex made music up until Bolan's death (car accident) in 1977. As both Tyrannosaurus Rex and T-Rex, the group released 13 studio albums and 20 singles that charted in the UK.
From their 1972 album The Slider, "Telegram Sam" is a good example of the band's glam sound. The song charted in 11 countries, reaching #1 in the UK, and performed modestly in the States, stalling at #67 on the Billboard Hot 100. Bolan's nonsensical lyrics reference several names, with the title alluding to, according to Wikipedia, music executive Sam Adler. It's a fun tune, and I'm more than happy to include it in this series.
The song was later covered by goth legends Bauhaus.
Enjoy!

T. Rex. Now there's a blast to my pre-new wave/alternative/punk years. Bang a gong, get it on!

I wish I could have used Bauhaus' version as well.

Classic rock stations are too busy still playing "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" to worry about other T Rex songs.
