What do you see when you look at me?

I currently work in retail. This is money in my pocket until I get the job that I really want (which will be soon). Most people look at me and think that I am fresh out of high school, but I'm actually 22 years old. At my job, the managers seem to think that I am some young idiot. They've shown me ZERO appreciation since I've been there. They talk to me like I'm still new and don't know anything. It really upsets me because I can't talk to them about it. Clearly we are not on the same page and that really bothers me. I don't know if it's because I'm black or because I look young. I've had 3 years of college (I am on a break and will be finishing my degree in the future) but I still get treated like I'm not educated and can't comprehend anything. Today they decided to throw 4 new people on the registers (who all needed to be trained) and the managers stayed in the back and the manager was on lunch. So who was left to train them and run back and forth? Me! The same person that they talk down to. But I got no credit for that. I got nothing. They finally came up to the front as if it was bothering them to have to get down and dirty with their cashiers and help out. Obviously this is not the place for me. We all know that. So I just have to tough it out until I get out of there. This was just a rant. Thanks for reading.

I don't think it is about how youthful you look or your race but that the managers are idiots like most managers who rarely appreciate employees and exploit them as they do you. You gotta move on to greener pastures. I know it's hard not to take it personal but don't let it get to you. Better things are ahead.

Managers often don't like staff to be more intelligent than they are. They have an inferiority complex.

It is no fun to go to work when you don't enjoy your job and are not being treated fairly. I hope you do the have to work there much longer.
