Hines Ward: (Knee) Participates in Red-Zone Drills Friday
November 25, 2006 7:36pm CST
Ward (questionable, knee) took part in red-zone drills on Friday and is somewhat encouraged by the recovery of his hyperextended knee during the past week, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Coach Bill Cowher typically requires his players to take the practice field at least once during the week so Ward's appearance was encouraging. "I pushed it, but I didn't push it to 100 percent," Ward said of his knee. "[Trainer] John [Norwig] taped it up like he would for a game, and I've been taking a lot of extra treatment, seems like 24 hours of treatment. From where I started Monday to where I was [yesterday], it's improved dramatically." He's missed one start in his nine-year NFL career due to injury. With the Steelers (4-6) needing a win to maintain their faint playoff hopes, Ward will likely lay it on the line Sunday. He's caught 12 passes for 232 yards in the last two seasons at Baltimore but is more realistically just a red-zone touchdown threat with his current injury.
