Devil Rays release Danny Waechter

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays released right-hander Doug Waechter on Wednesday. Waechter, who had surgery on his pitching shoulder last month, split the 2005 season between the Devil Rays and Triple-A Durham. He went 1-4 with a 6.62 ERA in 11 games for Tampa Bay before being optioned to Durham, where he was 1-12 with an 8.32 ERA in 17 games. In several stints with the Devil Rays since 2003, he compiled a 14-25 record with a 5.62 ERA in 60 games, including 54 starts.
