Bearing the extreme heat

These days we have to bear an extreme heat. Though it is normal because we are living in a tropical country, it has worsened in the night. I used to plug my fan in the night but yesterday it broke down. It just gave a bad smell and went a low volume bang sound resulted the plight. How can I overcome this till my fan gets repaired.
