Diary Thursday 17th November 2016 A final visit this year to the job club academy events which was quite relaxed and though not much use in getting my work skills improved, rather fun today. We did a team-work exercise where the teams we were divided into had to build a tower out of raw spaghetti strands held together with marshmallows. The team with the biggest tower that could stay up more than 30 seconds would win. We saw immediately that the opposition were being over-ambitious with a tower likely to collapse quickly so we built quite a small structure that held up well. As it was the last week of an eight week course, the centre staff treated us to sandwiches and French fries afterwards. I then did a quick tech-rehearsal for my pub signs talk which was finally coming up tomorrow after wees of preparation. Diary Friday 18th November 2016 The day of my talk, and my last visit to the community centre in Ingol Preston this year. I woke to horrendous rain which made me fear no one would come to see the presentation, but about twenty people did come along, including a friend from the creative writing group I attend and a professional local historian. Several of the centre’s staff popped in too amidst their various duties. It was a very relaxed and lively audience who seemed genuinely impressed by my talk and interaction with them. The centre provided a lovely buffet too. I hope to present talks there again in the new year. A massive thank you to everyone who supported this golden opportunity for me. sounds like some fun days! J hosted a larp event, which I took part in, getting slowly into that, fun, just forcing me to stretch outside the norm

@arthurchappell I am, slowly, getting my feet under me. Hard coming into preformed groups and finding a nitch, and this has rules, turns and stats and whatnot, that part confuses the cheese outta me

That's great that your talk was so well received after all your hard work on it. Congratulations. You'll be pleased no doubt to have finished with the job club academy for a while.

@JudyEv though it isn't too helpful in the long run it is nicely run and the people organizing it are genuinely helpful - though answerable to some extent to welfare they run things quite independently

@arthurchappell I was thinking of the place where they put you through the hoops. I'd forgotten about the job club.

You didn't say if your group won the structure competition. I take you did. So great to hear how your talk went so well. That's wonderful!
