My second day in the new though temporary contract job was less physically demanding than yesterday as I was assigned to sorting bundles of magazines and catalogues for delivery to various towns. There was a lot of work and a growing team of us putting the material in the right packing boxes and shipment cages. It was quite easy and the camaraderie among the team was lovely.
I get only thirty minutes (unpaid) break-time in a seven hour shift, and during today’s break I discovered that instead of going to the staff canteen over the other side of the vast sorting centre I can eat my homemade lunch in the staff library (which mostly consists of crime and thriller novels). I had a book with me, but I had my break in the library as it is closer to the staff cloakroom where I have to put my coat and bag when not working, and the main staff toilets too.
Soon after my break, I was asked to go home early along with most other temporary staff as work was thin on the ground. It means a loss of one and a half hour of both productivity and wages but I am back in as normal tomorrow.

It is a shame you can't do the full hours as I'm sure the money would be handy what with Christmas coming up. How is your Mum these days?
