Favorite "Time" Songs #5 - "Time the Avenger"

#5 in my Favorite "Time" Songs series is a band that frequently shows up in my countdowns: The Pretenders, and their would be hit "Time the Avenger." Led by vocalist and guitarist Chrissie Hynde (the group's only constant,) The Pretenders formed in Hereford, England in 1978, and despite the deaths of two original members and numerous lineup changes, the band is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. From their 1984 Platinum album Learning to Crawl, "Time the Avenger" was released as that record's fourth single. And that's it. The song, as far as I can see, failed to chart, presumably because it was overshadowed by hits such as "Back on the Chain Gang" and "Middle of the Road." This is interesting, because I used to hear "Time the Avenger" on the radio all the time. It's as good as anything on Learning to Crawl, but apparently not as far as the record buying public was concerned. Too bad, because the record buying public missed the boar with this one. I've seen The Pretenders four times, and they were great each time. According to Wikipedia, they are presently touring with Stevie Nicks. Don't miss it!
