My Accidental Table Topper

Recently I made a small Christmas tree skirt to match the tree I placed in my back entryway. While I was making the tree skirt, I had the brilliant idea to make it reversible. I had the right side sewn together, so just n ended to cut and sew a lining. Colours were chosen.....the fabric was laid out. The cutting was completed and the sewing was almost finished. Something seemed off. For some reason the lining was too small. A senior moment.....when I made the pattern, I used newspaper for a pattern with no seam allowance. Using the same pattern piece to cut the lining, I forgot to add the seam allowance. There was no way that the lining would fit the top I had made. Another piece of fabric was cut to make a plain lining for the tree skirt and a smaller piece of lining was cut to line what was now my table topper. Some things don't end up quite the way we originally planned. It's a good thing I've learned to go with the flow.

It is still pretty even if it did not turn out the way you wanted it to.

i chuckled a bit 's this sounds soooo familiar! seems i'm always not thinkin' schtuff through'n then gotta figure what to do to correct 't :) i believe that such's a sign 'f sorts, tellin' 's we got 't all wrong 'fore we e'er started 'n that 2nd (3rd, 4th) project which resulted from such t'was truly meant to be. that's jest so purty, ms. morley! i'd worry 'bout a tree skirt prolly more so if'n i'd a tree 'p. looks 's though the hubs aint'n no hurry to help facilitate such a feat :(

I have the best of both worlds. A tree Skirt and a table topper. Neither is reversible.

It really turned out quite well, considering that wasn't my original intention.

i like polka dots and reversible designs are good. you have variety yet less stuff to wash, fold and take up space.

This fabric was left over from a project made last winter. The red was such a warm, inviting red.

@Morleyhunt When things don't work like you planned, it makes you get more creative. And, that's a good thing!

I thought about what to do with the too small piece for a day or two before deciding how it could be salvaged. I was pleased with the final result.

It was funny that I had almost finished sewing it together before I realized my mistake. This was a good way to salvage the project.
