Don't stick only to the written texts in your school books. Make the pupils talk. It doesn't matter what the texts in the book are about, you can use all texts for conversations. Read the lyrics of well-known English pop songs with them. They may know the melody but not understand all the words. Play the music in the classroom and then talk about the texts. Give them topics to talk about in front of the whole class. Simple topics like introducing themselves and their families, describing their hometown, explaining their hobbies, retelling a favourite book. They must learn to talk freely, not read a prepared text from a sheet of paper. Inform yourself on the net about modern teaching methods. Here is an example:
