Secret Santa - the aftermath

We had a little holiday gift exchange at work on tuesday. I'd say it went really well. It was the typical secret santa type thing - but I was really impressed by the thoughtfulness that people showed in picking out presents. I saw some great things given as gifts! I'm really happy because I managed to make it a little bit better with some careful work. My neightbor and friend drew a fellow's name who's in really bad financial straits, the one who won the turkey at thanksgiving. I mentioned him in a previous post. Anyway, I found out that he didn't even own a coat. That's not such a bad thing here, but he works an early shift and it gets into the thirties in the mornings. Since he might not like to take charity at other times, I told my neighbor-friend about that and she found a really really good gently used one at a thrift store. He was so happy when he got it! He kept asking "how did you know?" As for my gift, it was a ten dollar wal-mart gift card. I boycott the store when possible so I gave that to my hard-luck coworker too, letting him know that I won't set foot inside the place but I don't want it to go to waste. I thought that all worked out really well! It was such a great feeling, seeing him happy and knowing he'd be warmer this winter.

Sometimes the best gift we receive is the ability to give to someone in need. Merry Christmas. You did good.

I totally agree! About the the best gift is to have the chance to give. It makes me happy, knowing he will have warm mornings. He says it really came in handy when there was ice on both sides of his windshield (inner and outer) about a week ago.

that works out well, I am happy to hear some more needs of his are met, the poor fellow. I couldnt do tons this year, but I did give some money to a gofundme for a friend of a friend who needs emergency dental work, dental stuff is always expensive and painful

@Rohvannyn I should go check rq, almost 600/1000 needed, so she is getting closer, but not close enough. if you know anywhere to share it at, it can be found under get-shayes-teeth-out at gofundme

That is very sweet of you. My mom would never go to Walmart either. Now, her reason was she didn't like big American companies pushing out Canadian businesses.

Well, I can understand that. I get irritated by their political views and their terrible quality merchandise.

@paigea Well, if there's a particular person there who's really good, I can totally understand.

@Rohvannyn I have to admit I go there for some things including our cell phones. The person who works in the phone kiosk is amazing
