look everywhere except at him and keep fingers crossed that the lift goes especially fast today or initiate a conversation with your boss? How to deal with this one of life's embarrassing moments?

I always had good terms with all my bosses and i definataly strike a conversation if we are together in the lift. If it's a super boss, and we don't interact much, still i would greet him/her. I don't find it embarrassing at all.

That's great! I'm just scared of the silence when I really cannot think of a single thing to say.

@shaynas depends on the boss maybe, I find some easier to talk to than others.

Why would it be embarrassing to be with your boss on a lift?

I should specify he's not a direct boss but rather someone higher up the ladder, and it's embarrassing because I don't know what to say.

You could just say Good Morning how are you?

Why is that 'one of life's embarrassing moments'? Smile when you get into the lift and then wait how the boss reacts. If he/she wants to start a conversation, they'll do it. If not, smile again when you leave the lift. End of story.

It's embarrassing when each is avoiding eye contact and/or thinking up things to say but the mind always remains a blank because we are not so familiar with each other.
