Pour Some Sugar on It: "Sugartime" The McGuire Sisters (1958)

Very few of you are going to recognize this song unless of a certain generation but trust me that “Sugartime” was a huge hit in its day. The McGuire Sisters were Phyllis (lead singer), Dorothy and Christine and they were the next big girl group following the Andrews Sisters of the 40s. The sisters were pretty much big band pop style gown wearing singers standing in front of a microphone act. That seemed old fashioned already in the 50s. Yet, the McGuire Sisters were a major act scoring two monster #1 hits in the post rock and roll Elvis era. There was “Sincerely” then their signature “Sugartime.” After record sales waned, the sisters remained top Vegas performers and popular variety TV show guests during the 60s. There was a TV movie about them titled appropriately “Sugartime.”
