Helping limp, unhealthy and unmanageable hair

I went to my hairdresser a couple of weeks ago and my hair was damaged greatly from dying and pulling up in a tight bun a lot. It was actually breaking at the root and end of my hair. My hair dresser suggested using a non sulfate shampoo first and foremost and what a difference it has made. I suggest giving it a go! Anyone else have any great recommendations? Please share.
