I took a day off, but it's time to resume my Favorite Rockies Players series with #5, third baseman Vinny Castilla. In three separate stints with the Colorado Rockies, Vinny Castilla played eight total seasons with the team. A slugger, Castilla was a member of a home run happy group affectionately known as the Blake Street Bombers. In his eight seasons in a Rockies uniform, Castilla was a two time All Star, a three time Silver Slugger Award winner, and in 2004, the National League RBI Leader. His best season as a Rockie was 1998, when Castilla played all 162 games. That year, he batted .319, hit 46 home runs, drove in 144 runs, had 206 hits, 380 total bases, and scored 108 runs. Vinny Castilla was an original Rockie (remember, the Rockies were an expansion team, starting play in 1993.) I went to a lot of Rockies games when I lived in Denver. It was always fun when Castilla walked up to the plate, because you knew he could jack a home run at any time. Castilla has also worked in the Rockies front office, and has served as a base coach for the team. (Stats verified by Wikipedia)
Former Rockie Vinny Castilla is featured in a piece created by his son, Marco.

Vinnie was a pure Denver air player. His stats slumped when not wearing a Rockie uniform.

Yeah, he was. He probably wouldn't do as well here now with the humidor.
