I have an idea!!!!

My husband is probably one of the hardest people to buy a gift for. Anything he needs, he ends up buying himself. Same for anything he wants(if it is reasonably in the budget). His birthday isn't until August, so this will give me plenty of time to acquire materials, and put it together. What is this mystery gift? Well, with my current interest in crocheting, I have stumbled on to the term 'graphgan'. Basically, it is the technique used to turn a picture(generally a quite simple one) and turn it into a crocheted afgan. My plan is to use the Buffalo Bills logo(his favorite football team), and make him an afgan. This will likely take quite some time, as I will not be able to work on it when he is home. I should also practice some of the techniques used to crochet this particular item. Wish me luck! I am gonna need it!

You know, that is a great idea for a football fan. I am not into sports so mine would have to be something to do with Apple or Music or something. But I think he will totally love it. And it is made by your hands, which is extremely special.

@Morethanamom I am sure there are many ways. You must be talented though. Not everyone can made something like that.

There are plenty of ways to do them. A favorite logo, or cartoon character, animal, the possibilities are just about endless.

Very cool idea. My two sisters crochet and they are talking about a temperature afgan. Not quite sure what that is but they are excited to try it.

Oh, that is something I want to tackle in the future as well. In a nutshell, you use the temperature of each day to dictate which color or shade to use, a new row for each day. Some do just a season and make a scarf, others a whole year and do a bedspread.

My Husband and Sons are like that too. So its really difficult for me to know what to choose for them so normally I buy what my intuition guides me to and hope for the best. I have not done too bad so far along the line. Good luck with your project and hope you can keep it a secret till its his Birthday too.l

@Morethanamom Good idea that and on the quiet you can be doing the other project behind his back. That will keep him thinking for a while or at least it should do so.

Well, he came and started looking over my shoulder, so I gave him a hint. Told him I will make him something for his birthday. He doesn't know what. Maybe I will make him a hat and scarf to throw him off. ;)

I am sure he will. Keeping it hidden, especially once it gets bigger, will be tricky.

Best of luck. That is a great idea. Looking forward to seeing it when it is all done. At least you have quite some time to work on it so that is good.

Thanks. I am just glad that this has come to me this early. If it was only a month away, then it would be overwhelming.

I wish I had an original mind like yours. My husband's birthday is also in August but I am always at a loss to know what to buy him.

I am usually at a loss as well. I am one of those people who likes to buy things that the other person needs or I know they want. I also tend to be very indecisive. Hopefully I will be able to get a good headstart on this. I will make a smaller practice blanket, just to get a hang of the technique.
