The Cowboy

When I was 12 years old my grandmother passed away. I lived a short block away from the cemetery where she was buried. I remember I used to go sit and visit her grave when I felt sad or had a bad day. Right after my 13th birthday I felt very negative, so I decided to head towards the cemetery to visit my grandmother. I would sit and just talk to her, it made me feel better most days. The cemetery was sectioned off in large squares with a large metal fence surrounding it. I started to exit the cemetery and walk towards a field which was a short cut towards my childhood home. Through the field was a handmade dirt road which made an L shape towards the road I lived on. I started to turn towards the L shape road when I heard my name being called. I couldn't tell you if it was a male or females voice, only that I heard a loud "Becki!" called behind me. I turned around and didn't see a soul. My heart started to pound but I reassured myself by saying it was just the wind carrying sound. I continued towards the big L. When I was younger I would walk staring at my feet, but for some reason something told me to look up. When I looked up I seen a man standing about 30 feet away from me. He was dressed in old western attire. He looked towards my direction and motioned me to come with his hand. The odd part about this encounter was that I could see the tall sagebrush behind him through him. It terrified me. I screamed and stumbled backwards and ran the opposite direction which was the long way home. I ran until I got to the middle of my street. When I stopped to catch my breath I heard my name being called a second time, "Becki!". To this day I cannot explain what I saw. All I know is that the image of that cowboy has stuck with me to this day. Have you ever encountered something that is unexplained? I'd love to hear about it!

I can't say that I have, but I'm sure it was real to you.

@ladyraven I'm sure it was, and a bit scary as well.

@fishtiger58 I wish I had a more logical explanation for it. If it was just a dirty guy in western wear I wouldn't have been so scared, but seeing the brush behind him was something I couldn't understand.

It could have been self induced, I was only 13! But, at the time it was very real and something I've always remembered! Thank you for your comment.

I haven't not as clearly as you had. Wow that is quite the experience. I have encountered strange presences, one in particular sitting at the end of my bed when I awoke in the very early morning once. I did not hear anything at all when that happened, but my then husband heard someone talking to him and woke up just as I was seeing this. So strange and my husband at the time was more scared when I wasn't. Cannot explain that experience.

@ladyraven Oh yes I could see it clearly and he could not. It was a black hooded figure with no face..should have frightened me, but I did not feel it was any harm for some reason, meanwhile hubs could not see it, but could hear it talking in Latin..he was so scared he jumped up, turned white as a sheet, I had never seen him so scared or even scared ever.

@TiarasOceanView To be completely honest, a hooded figure with no face would have made me turn white as well! I feel like that would be more scary to me than the cowboy! The cowboy had a face, I just couldn't see it very well because it was further away. It's interesting how it scared him but not you! Neat! Thank you for sharing!

That is odd! What did it look like? Could you make out any details? I've heard that sometimes when people see things they will feel calm, I, on the other hand was terrified..maybe because I was so young and wasn't expecting it.

You had an encounter with the world beyond. I have had many such encounters. Actually nothing to be scared of. It could have been a message from your grandmother or some spirit that had picked up what you were saying to your grandma and wanted to help you. Anyway have you seen your grandma or any other apparition since your were a child.

@ladyraven I have seen, heard and felt things all through my life. My whole family had this kind of understanding with the world beyond.

A part of me wonders if it was some type of spirit guide. I've seen shadows here and there, and I've had others experiences where I've felt things. But, I've never seen anything since that was so real and so vivid. It was truly an experience to remember! Have you seen anything supernatural or out of the norm? Also, no I've never seen my grandmother. I did however use a spirit board about a year ago that said it was a message from her to "believe in love". Which gave me a very positive vibe.

@RasmaSandra That's very interesting that it is generational. Is there one experience that sticks in your mind the most?

For whatever reason, some people can see ghosts - while others cannot. I have never encountered one.

@ladyraven I have heard too many people make the claim to doubt the possibility.

I'm not sure if it was just because there was so much negative energy around me that it attracted something scary at the time, or something else. Although, you've never seen a ghost, do you believe they exist?

I don't think that I have encountered something unexplained, but you are lucky your Grandmother's grave was near where you lived so that you could visit her regularly. Both my Grandmothers are buried in Cemetery's that are 2 hours away and hard for me to get to. So, it has been many years since I visited them. I really want to visit them again. I just have to set aside a good full day or two to do it.

I remember you telling me about this happening to you. It's pretty strange eh? But I believe in the 'paranormal' ...so what you saw could of very well been a spirit! It's pretty amazing though to actually have the ability to actually see something. Not many people are able to see them. I've only seen a shadow corner of my eye and heard unexplained stuff.. Life is a strange one, that's for sure!

To see something is definitely scary, especially before I was able to really understand it. If it were to happen now I might react differently and try to communicate rather than run away. Who knows, I may get another chance someday. Life is definitely full of mysteries.

I never have but that must have been a very scary moment for you. It is hard to explain things sometime. I am so sorry that you lost your mom at such a young age. That must have been very difficult.
