Learning to work with women....

In my industry, it's fairly male dominated. Not because of any gender equality issue (that's for another post), but mostly women just don't find technical engineering to be the reason they get out of bed each 'n' every day... However, we do love social interactions, communications, and people in general. Hence, more and more women are working in the social media section of the tech industry.... Well, my new job lands me for the first time in a team full of women. That's quite a new thing for me! As I don't have many women friends in life, and my interest and hobbies are kinda geeky... Anyways, any tips for me? Do you prefer interacting with men or women?

I don't know what to tell you. I've always interacted better with men than women. Unless you're into hair and makeup and all that girly stuff, I don't know what you would talk about.

@Drosophila Me either, so I could never relate. They're also into gossip, talk shows, and tabloids. I can't relate to any of it.

I prefer women. More compassion and understanding and no locker room nonsense.

Many years ago I was hired and didn't realize the 'boss' was a woman since I didn't interview with her. OK, fast forward to starting day and was told Miss so and so was my boss..hum...It started out on a bad note for sure. She didn't last long however, and was replaced by a rather stupid man. by that time I gave it a year and quit.... I know, that doesn't help you..OK...another job, a 10 year job - the last 5 or so years of that time I was able to have someone (another female) reporting to me. The major issue - my boss was a hunk, everyone drolled over him including whatever girls I hired to work and report to me...one would go into his office when he wasn't there and sniff the air - she said it smelled like him...(yes, she was married and preggers at the time) Of the three that reported to me over that time I only had problems with the sniffer.The last one I hired I recently found on Facebook and we spend time chatting so that's a good sign;

I prefer to work with men, because they have nothing to prove. As a teacher, there were many more women in the field. I got along with them very well, and we remain close friends.

Mostly I'd prefer to work with men but I did work with a small team of women and we got along really well with no dramas whatsoever but then one member left and the newcomer didn't really fit in so well so the dynamics all changed.

Ask them to call you "Sir". For interacting, perhaps I have a slight preference for men in a job environment but it depends mainly of the persons.

Since I was bullied by two girls when I was little, it's hard for me to interact with women. I have to really get to know the women first.

Since I was 19 I've mainly had women bosses and have worked mainly with women. First in hospitals, then in end of life care and then in social care where there were more men but still women were the majority. Now I'm in a kitchen and it is all men...most of them gay I'm now used to working with men and even the gay banter is somewhat entertaining...I mainly tell them they are going through a phase I do like working with women but it can get b1tchy...although some men are b1tches too Overall I'd say no preference as regards interactions as long as they aren't tw@ts

I rarely if ever make the first move. Once I start I don't have trouble interacting unless they start digging in too deep before I am ready. Then I literally shut them down. I like my secrets to remain secrets

I find men a little scary, but when I get to know them I find them to be more direct, to the point, less concerned with sugar coating things, perhaps more practical. When I communicate with women I find them to be more artistic, more intricate, emotions and feelings emphasized more... however these are only generalizations. Some men and women don't match the stereotypes. Since these other women are also tech -- maybe they will have some similar interest as you
