Do You Like Watching Westerns?

Tonight we are going to be watching the new version of The Magnificent Seven. I'm looking forward to this remake of the classic. It stars Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Martin Sensmeir and Chris Pratt among others. I know westerns are violent shoot-em-up action but I always liked them and am glad they are still making modern westerns and re-makes such as this one. When I was young I used to watch all the TV westerns too like Rawhide, Bonanza and The Rifleman. Do you like this genre? What was/is your favorite television or movie western?
Here's a very nice version of the "Gunsmoke" theme. The show brings back happy memories for me--snuggled up next to Dad on the sofa, watching Matt, Kitty, Fe...

When I was young, every second movie seemed to be a Western and TV was full of Western series. I always loved Westerns, mostly because of the horses.

I used to worry about the horses.

@suziecat7 Later I learnt that they used trip wires to make them fall before they worked out how to teach the horses to fall with tripping them. That sort of spoilt the Westerns.

I have the impression that young people don't watch Westerns anymore. It's Fantasy and Horror now.

I think you're right. I do like some fantasy movies but they can have the horror.

@suziecat7 I must admit that I've never seen a horror film in my life, but I don't think that I'm missing something.

I saw it. It's good, it's based on the concept, but the story it tells is good.

I prefer old western TV shows and movies. Gunsmoke is the best TV western. Movies with John Wayne, James Stewart and Gary Cooper.

And the old spaghetti westerns like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Gunsmoke was definitely one of the best.

I love westerns, but I doubt I will like a remake of "The magnificent Seven". Let us know how it compares.

Rifleman is my favorite with the Lone Ranger as second.
