All packed! Ready to go! My first concerts of the new year are this weekend, and I'm excited! Before I take off it's time for another song in my list of favorite songs with "night" in the title. And this one is quite appropriate for the weekend. #4: Night Accident - Robbie Fulks Well, who else would I be going to see? As I mentioned before when I counted down my 20 favorite Robbie songs, this is my favorite by the two-time Grammy nominee (ooh, it sounds so good to say that!!). What a brilliant and brutal story about two lifelong friends who slide off a road, roll down an embankment, and land on the train tracks. Certain that he's going to die as the result of his injuries, the friend confesses a one-night stand with the narrator's wife. Filled with minute details ("see the black mesh of wire and the tangle of steel that traps us together inside"), "Night Accident" may be the one song I'll never get to see Robbie Fulks do live....but it'll stand on top of the mountain of his great songs in my opinion until he writes something better to knock it off.
