Panama canal has been always an engineering marvel to me. The hardwork and determination to make this canal was something incredible.Thousands of lives was given away during the construction of this engineering marvel. This canal has made the journey from pacific to the atlantic a much easier one compared to the old route all the way around south America. I was not aware of the toll to be paid while crossing this canal until today. Even if I knew there was a toll, I would not have even guessed close to the ridiculous amounts of money each vessel pay during crossing. The amount is calculated on various factors, but a large container or cruise ship on an average pays somewhere around 200 000 to 300 000 US$.The most expensive toll fee ever paid was by the Disney Cruise Ship on 16 May 2008 of USD 331,200 for one West to East passage. Would you have guessed the toll to be such high?

They could reduce the toll that more ships could pass through the canal. That would only bring them more money.

I didn't know that. While it seems high I'm sure the cost is part of what the passengers pay for their journey on the ship.
