What happens in China NOW!

In this winter, most part of China was covered by the haze for a long time. I had saw the blue sky and sun just a few days when the cold wind came and blew off the haze. The best-selling in the supermarket is the respirator and air purifier. Everyone is masked by a respirator on the street. Actually, a few years ago, when I was a child, I didn't have the definition of haze at all. Ten years ago, I began my university in the capital city of China -----Beijing, I began to realize that the haze is very different from the fog. The fog is composed of many water vapor. But in the haze, besides the water vapor, there are various poisonous particles. The gray sky covered by the haze has a bad influence on our mood. When i get up everyday, the first thing I do is to withdraw the curtain and see what color of the sky : OH! It's gray again! The governent made a tough decision between the economic develoment and the enviroment quality. Some researchers gave various solutions to solve the problem. But it has no effect. What we can hope now is : tomorrow will be better.

I travelled to Beijing in 1997 and 1998. At that time it was autumn. When we were speaking, we felt like eating sands. Of coruse at that time the pollution was not as serious as today, but it was not good anyway. In my city Guangzhou, I don't think our environment is better. But compares to Beijing, we are still very lucky. I think the government has take some methords to deal with the gas and environment. We don't do the recycle well at all.

@youless hahahhahaha. I pefer the cold weather than the poisonous air. You can use the air conditioner to control room temperature. But I can't decide the air quality today.

At that time, I think the environment problem of northern part was the sand storm. The sand from inner land changed the blue sky into yellow. hahaha. I think the southern part of China is always suitable for living.

Industrial development, economic development disregarding the environment is the worst a government can do to mother nature.

@ChinaLeon Of course. I didn't say that we shouldn't embrace the development. But it should be at a level where we take into consideration of the environment as well. It's the abuse that's destroying the environment and not the mere fact of usage alone.

Yeah. Actually the development must be accompanied with pollution. There is no development without pollution . Even when we type some words on the mylot, we creat some CO2. Because the mylot website sever in someplace must consume electric power which has discharged CO2 or Heat already. The problem is that how can we control the balance between the pollution and the development.

This problem risks to become worse, because with more wealth more people will buy cars and the pollution will get worse and worse.

@ChinaLeon We had the odd and even number policy in Italy during the beginning of the 70's. The rich people bought two cars one with an odd plate and another with an even number and finally they realized that this system was totally useless. For several years cars were banned on Sundays, another stupid rule that brought nothing.

@LadyDuck Wow,you had that stupid rule from the 70's, unbelievable! I think the indusrty pollution is the main reason, like the chemical plant,or power plant. In China, many companines often discharged waste at night.

Yeah. That's an important reason. In recent years, the number of cars has increased significantly in China. In the capital city, we execute the "car limit " policy----odd and even number rule. For example, the car with license plate number ABC123 can only drive on road in odd days like 1st,3th,5th,Jan. And other citys have also issued different rules.
