Bank Fees

I needed a paper statement from my bank and they said it was £5 to print it! Why are bank fees so high? I know I could print it myself if I went onto online banking but I feel that asking as much as that for them to print it in a branch is a bit ridiculous!

Expensive, too expensive. We get charged too but not as bad as that. However we did have to find a decent Bank beforehand as some are charging what they want.

@lovinangelsinstead21 you should discuss it with them , find out why and tell them you might just get another bank that doesn't do that

@redurnet For a while they charged us for this and that. But now they charge us quite large amounts all of a sudden. I would rather them take it out in bits and pieces like they did before as we are not rich.

Yes, it seems different banks charge different amounts and some don't charge anything.

it sure is and seems some banks are out to take every penny of your little bit of money. every other bank i have dealt with except Chase has ripped me off and mishandled my money. i stay with chase now as they know how to treat a client. they printed a statment for me and didn't charge. they got back money for me a company charged me without my say so. covered the over draw for nothing, etc.

I always thought something like this would be free but I guess it depends on the bank.

I would find a new bank or print it myself from my online account. It is a bit ridiculous.

Yes, it did seem rather a high price.

They charge so much because they are "greedy".

I think this is true, especially if you read articles about how much bonuses some of the bankers get and the wages of the people at the top.

Bank in Trinidad is just as disgusting. Every thing is a fee and a cost. But that's how they are...they answer to no one. We have been wondering why banks don't provide public toilets too?

This is interesting to know. I guess banks are really making a lot of money because they know people have no choice but to rely on them.

@redurnet Yes, the make billions of dollars in profit each year. I have been reading some of the comments below...you get one monthly statement free then every thing after you have to pay.

This is true. They know they can charge this amount for an important document.

Is it something you can print from your printer? Our bank will charge if we go there and ask for something. If we do it from home, it is free.

They said I can use online banking to print it myself. I have not done online banking for a long time though as I was a victim of identity fraud a few years ago and I'm a bit scared of being hacked.

We have all kind of ridiculous bank fees here in Riga, Latvia. So when our online bank said that my hubby could have his debit card renewed for no charge just by letting them send it by mail even though I don't understand the logic we agreed otherwise they would take off a fee from his account. Go figure. You should definitely print it out yourself it you can.

They could claim it's to try and encourage everyone to go paperless but they're quite happy to send out letters themselves, including endless circulars for other accounts that are of little interest (in more ways than one!)

That does seem very excessive. Once they would have done it for free.

I agree, I'm sure they used to do it for free.

It's true. I wish the cost could be fair to us though. I do think £5 for ink, paper and five minutes of a bank clerk's time is crazy.
