There are three camps in the US today: people in mourning, people celebrating, and people continuing to ignore the government. I'm in the last category. But I will not ignore the next song on my list of favorite songs with a general time of day in the title. This one might shock a lot of people. #8: Midnight Blue - Melissa Manchester Yeah, baby! And you're thinking, huh? Someone who did a top ten Clash songs countdown and frequently inserts 80-year-old country songs into the countdowns picked a mid-70s easy listening tune? You betcha. This is what "pop" music used to be, also known as "easy listening" or "middle of the road" music. And, despite the fact that I was listening to and reading about all things Elton John when this song came out in 1975, I fell in love with it immediately. I thought -- and still think -- Melissa Manchester has a splendid, clear voice. And this, her breakthrough single, remains a great song in my world. Go figure, huh?
