Do photographs speak louder than words?

I enjoy writing posts here and always endeavour to find a free image to accompany it. Sometimes it take ages to do find an image to match the subject. As I write the posts quite quickly I spend more of my time looking for the image than writing the post. I’ve been checking through posts that others write and was surprised to find that a very high percentage of them do not have an image. So now I am wondering if I would spend my time better writing two posts without inserting an image. The problem is that I enjoy posts with images, particularly if they are personal photographs. If I have no comment to make sometimes the photo itself enables me to add a sentence or two. I expect I will continue to add pictures because they do enhance a piece of short writing, but perhaps less often…

Since I discovered images can draw more attention to a discussion, I always try to add them. However I end up uploading irrelevant images, just for the sake of having some.

You could always add something from nature that is eye catching, there are lots of free images of flowers.

I always add an image, because I know that I like to see discussions with photos, especially if the photos are taken by the author of the post.

It's all about interpretation. I'm not really a very good writer, I don't have that kind of mind but I do enjoy taking pictures and most of the time it's my pictures that inspire me to write.

And very often your dogs. I always like posts about dogs and cats, it is something I can relate to and comment upon.

Do you have your own photos in your PC to add? If so you can make a list previously with those you might like to share and then just add them to your post. I always write my posts on Word and save them so as I write I have time to look up photos before I post.

I do have photos but sometimes my post changes with the writing so I wait until it is finished and up before I edit and add a photo generally speaking. Most of my photos of not of much interest I am afraid, they are mostly of the pets and the garden.

@41CombedaleRoad , I like to only put photos that I have taken with my posts, if at all possible. Otherwise, I am a worrywart. But, yes, images do add to posts.

I wish I took more photos, I just have not got into the habit of doing so.

I think it depends on the photo and what you're trying to say. There are tons out there that don't need words to get their points across like the photo of the vulture and little girl that was taken in 1993 by Kevin Carter. Or the photo was taken of a man that was set on fire. There is a whole documentary on Kevin Carter and the group he was with at the time and about photojournalism.

Often the smartest photos are just not for use on this kind of a site. I wish the photo came first to mind and the post afterwards, but in my case it is the post first and then a hunt for an image.

@41CombedaleRoad I normally only post photos that I take. I have a lot that I still need to edit before I post.

I like pictures on the posts too. But, I have had such a terrible time finding pictures. I have also had a lot of bad feelings as far as the laws go on photo copyright. I just have decided not to use them anymore. Not worth the stress.

@41CombedaleRoad .....I just gave up on it. It gets frustrating trying to find something that is free to use. I don't have access to pictures of my own.

We have to be careful, there are limited choices for us because we get paid (altho very little). I am not looking for photos right now unless they are personal ones because it is getting near to the end of the month and I am a little short of my goal.

It is rare that I do not add images to my post. Images do make a difference.

It is annoying if they are big images as they take time to come through on my computer.

Lately, I have written quite a few posts without photos but mostly I do include a photo. However, I read articles regardless of whether they have a photo or not especially since many are not original to the writer.

Sometimes the photos are a witty expression of the post so whether it is the author's photo or not I still enjoy them.

I'm not attracted by posts without an image or without a photo showing the member or an avatar.

I have to admit that I had to look back on various posts in order to see the ratio between those with photos and those without. When I read an interesting post I don't always recall whether there was an image with it or not.

I don't know that it makes much difference really, as you say, but I always try to add a photo. Luckily we both takes lots of photos now and I'll often take an appropriate one just before or after writing about a subject. Sometimes I'll just use a 'flora' photo if I have nothing else.

I think photos add to the post - of couse, some use photos that have nothing to do with the post which is a turn off.
