Needing a belt and filter

Since I promoted the business next door he said he'd do my oil change if I bought the items. So I did that today he said I need an alternator belt it's cracked aND engine filter. Fair enough since I haven't replaced it since I got it 10 years now.

Um, what is an engine filter? Are you sure he is being truthful about what you need done?

He did my oil change free and he works beside my work. He doesn't do bigger fixes so he wouldn't make a profit. My dad's a mechanic and would fix it.

@akalinus Basically it filters the engine of any debris, or crap I guess would be the easiest thing.
