Chattanooga Chuck says - Early Spring for Tennessee!

United States
February 2, 2017 6:27am CST
While we wait to find out what the famous Pennsylvania Groundhog predicts, our local groundhog, Chattanooga Chuck, has declared that we will have an early spring! We actually had a spring day yesterday as around 3 pm the temperature was 69 degrees and climbing. Today, 50 and rain, but far better than cold and snow. Happy Groundhog Day and we really know that spring comes when it wants to not because some silly critter says so! Photo: pixabay.com/en/day-ground-hog-february-feb-36437/

@AbbyGreenhill It's no good asking me that! I barely know what one is! Is it the same thing as a prairie dog? Or don't you know either?

@JudyEv Those are much smaller...we've disposed of a few groundhogs that were over 20 pounds.

I love that cartoon image. I hope he's right - I love spring weather - not too hot, not too cold. Too bad we can't count on Mother Nature to listen to Chuck.

@AbbyGreenhill after all it is the prerogative of a woman to change her mind.

I love what our local weatherman said...."It's cloudy and snowing in Pennsylvania. How did Phil see his shadow?" I'm all for Chattanooga Chuck's forecast! I'll take him for a ride on the Choo-Choo next time I'm in town!

I still say if they'd just set their lights up right, there would be no shadow any year, but they won't listen to me.

Our Candlemas prediction is 40 more days of winter. I did not need the prediction to be sure that until mid March we never see spring here.

We here in the south have an early spring, but about 8 years ago we had such a severe frost in late april it killed all the threes that were blooming.

@AbbyGreenhill I remember we had snow in April some years ago and many trees already had leaves and went down.

That would be nice. I wouldn't have remembered it was Groundhog;s Day today if I hadn't seen the groundhog on Bing when I was there earlier.

That's all they talked about on the early news this morning...I didn't even know we had a Chattanooga Chuck until then!

I hope we have an early Spring here in Georgia. The past couple of days have been unseasonably nice and warm.
