These are taxing times and it's tax time!

United States

These times certainly are taxing and uncertain. It seems the US is making enemies of our friends yet sleeping with our enemies. All I can say is, God help us survive. Here in my little corner of the universe it's tax time. Since we pay to have our taxes done my part in tax time means putting the tax documents into a file folder as they arrive. My big job this morning was to go through that folder and group the various types of 1099's. (Interest, dividends, Income, etc.) I'm done - all it cost me so far was two paperclips! Now to call and set up an appointment. Are you ready for tax time? Photo: pixabay.com/en/bureaucracy-files-tax-consultant-1016207/

I'm getting stuff together for tax time. Most of my stuff is together but I don't exactly know what I'll need to file my moms taxes since she passed away in 2016. I'll be so glad when all those loose ends are tied up and done with

Before they get super busy you might want to call/go to IRS and ask them about your mom..and what you need.

Our bank mailed what we need. I just got my 1099 from my former company (pension) today - that was the last thing I needed. Where have you been???

I like having someone else do the work and print out the stuff....that way if a mistake is made its the prepare's fault.

@AbbyGreenhill I won't say I don't make mistakes, I have, but it has always been to my benefit, which is good. I like that they go over the taxes before paying out. At least that's what it feels like. Though most of the time I do pretty well. I also did it with Turbo Tax the last couple years and that program does all the calculating so mistakes are almost nil.

Now we're retired we don't have to do a tax return any more. They used to be a real pain.

The only pain is if you do the 'long form' and have a bunch of deductions..we can't do it that way any longer since we don't have enough medical (thank goodness) . We are retired and have to file taxes.
