I got the call today ... Duke's surgery will take place on my birthday ... February 14th ... next week on Tuesday morning. It'll be my wish come true. He will be neutered ... get his nails clipped ... and they'll check for a microchip to be sure he isn't someone else's dog. I want to be sure Duke can live here in his forever home only ... if he isn't someone else's baby. I couldn't bear it if my dog/dogs were gone ... and I was looking for them. If he is someone else's dog ... I would get in touch with them. We will take Duke to the Animal Shelter not far from our home ... SNAP-NC will be there ... a mobile unit where people bring their pets to be neutered, spayed. Duke can't have anything to eat after midnight the night before. He can have water. The girl told me Duke would have to be on a leash. I told her his situation how he was so strong that I can't walk him on a leash. He has been used to trying to get untangled to get to his house in the bad weather. Over time he's become super-strong. The girl told me they had professionals who knew how to handle him, everything would be alright. Duke's never shown any aggression to Skip and I ... he was loving to the people who came to meet and greet with him. I think it's his strength that's worrying me most. I don't want him to get away. The girl understood, thankfully. I will be glad to have Tuesday evening here ... Duke back into his kennel all safe, sound.

Those folks who work with SNAP-NC do wonderful work. We've taken many of the cats who show up on our doorstep, usually they've been dumped in our woods, to SNAP-NC when it comes for spaying and neutering.

We took our Ginger to them last fall to be spayed. They do a great job. Cheaper than any local vets around here

I hope everything works out and you can keep him as your forever dog. We got a stray dog that way. We had him for ten years. Such a well trained dog and no one claimed him so we kept him.

When Duke has his surgery, they will check to see if he has a microchip.
