Selling own written books...

At the end of 2015, I published my first book through a professional publishing house. Once I got the samples, I located some in different local bookshops. This morning, I went to one of this bookshops where I have placed some books and they confirmed that they have sold them, so I got some money and left more samples. It's nice to see that there are persons outside interested in reading you and it gives motivation to continue writing.

Do you have a blog to promote your book online? I think that there are blogs that you can join, if you write reviews for other authors, they will write a review of your book.

@LadyDuck That's right, it's one of the best ways to present almost everything.

You could ask a journalist to interview you for the local newspaper. In this way, more people would get to know you and your book.

@Meramar In our town, bookshop owners occasionally invite authors to read from their new books. They put some chairs into the shop and interested people come and listen. At the end, they can buy a book if they like and get an autograph.

That's also an interesting option! Thank you.

@MALUSE Here in Spain exists something similar. But, it's not the bookshop owner who directly invites you. If you have got a literary agent, he searches for a bookshop where you can present your book when it came recently out on the market. If you don't have an agent, you can search the library on your own which allows you to present your book. A novel writer usually doesn't pay a literary agent as they are a bit expensive.

Awesome!! I know someone from our church who has had some stuff printed and sells her stuff via Amazon, etc. She usually has at least 5 or so of her books with her at all times. She has gone places with more books and does signings as well. But it sounds exciting. Wishing you the Best!!

Thank you! It's a really great experience. Once you start and get involved in this world of writing and publishing, it's not easy to get off of it again. The person you are talking about is doing well, as more books you have published as easier it will be to sell them.

Congratulations on getting your work published and sold. I suppose that no matter what anyone writes about there is always going to be someone else in the world who has an interest in the same thing. I think probably figuring out what is going to appeal to the largest group and how to be able to do it without making you feel as if it is work. Once it becomes work it stops being fun and it becomes an unpleasant task.

Some people write for work like articles, website contents or books for schools, academies etc. But, if you do it for pleasure, the quality is different and it's of course easier.

it is great when that happens. I sometimes spot books with my stories or articles in on the shelves of libraries and second hand bookshops which is thrilling
