My son is on the autism spectrum, He is diagnosed with high functioning pervasive developmental disorder and Tourette's. He has struggled with English reading and writing. This is his first year in high school and last year he was working at a grade 4 level. I have worried and stressed in regards to his English as when he started high school I was informed that his individual education plan for English would not be considered in high school and he will have to work at grade 9 level even though he hasn't been close to that all through grade school! Well last year his grade school teacher told me to not put him in remedial classes and to have him attend regular classes, I took that teachers advise although I was hesitant as English has not been his strong suit. We received my child's first report card tonight and his English mark was an 81% !!!!!!!!! In regular grade 9 classes! So my child was learning English at a grade 4 level in grade school and when pushed to work at a grade 9 level he excels! I am very proud of him! Sorry this was so long as I had to give the backround and brag about my amazing child that has overcome so much! What are you proud of today?

It is a wonderful achievement especially since he is so self conscious and will avoid talking to anyone if he can!

I'm proud of the fact that I survived the extraction of my 2 wisdom teeth without crying and feeling much pain.

You have every right to be proud. I was a special education teacher for most of my career, before I retired. You have to put your trust in teachers. Most of them know what is best. Congratulations on that English grade!!!!!!

I do trust teachers for sure, especially the one that stated he can do mainstream classes, but I still worried and stressed about his English class. I knew deep down it was right but I still doubted myself in it as well!

@DianneN I'm sure they do, but this is his first year in this school and staff is not familiar with him yet. It made me nervous and I guess it was without reason

It is wonderful news, I cried tears of joy over his mark! I have stressed and wondered if putting him in main stream this year was the right decision and I am so glad now that we did!
