Am I the Only One Who Just Doesn't Trust a Hospital's Billing Department?

I received a bill in the mail yesterday for two doctor's appointments back in October (both for my daughter when she broke her foot). Both dates had two sets of charges and all the bill showed for a description on those charges was "orthopedic clinic." I sent the bill back today, unpaid, with a note asking for more detail. If that's all I'm getting for a description, how the heck am I supposed to know what I'm paying for? For all I know, they are double-billing me for the same thing. Sadly, this is the second time I've done this for this particular bill. They sent it to me a couple months ago asking for a lot more money because my insurance didn't pay anything on it. I had to send it back to them, again unpaid, with a statement from my insurance company showing they had, in fact, paid 90% of the bill. Maybe this is how they can afford to buy all those vacant properties in town.

I don't necessarily blame the doctors as much as the administrators they answer to. The medical industry is all about making a profit now, even if that profit comes from less-than-honest means.

This would make me very suspicious too. Some people probably just pay up without thinking too much about it. You're wise to check it out.

I don't believe in hospital bills, hotels bills, bars bills ... I check everything.
