From a white-faced saki monkey to a very red-faced one - the Uakari monkey (Cacajao calvus). This unusual creature is native to South America. Its most striking features are the bald head and bright red face. The red face comes from a lack of pigmentation in the skin and abundant capillaries under the skin. It is the only monkey which can stay in the rainforest canopy for extended periods. The coat is long and shaggy and the tail short. Colour varies from white to orange or reddish-brown depending on the subspecies.
They have powerful lower jaws and over-sized canines which enable them to break open Brazil nuts and unripe fruit. Local tribes hunt the Uakari for food and for bait. Populations along the Amazon River are susceptible to being hunted from canoes and the continual logging of the rainforest is a great threat to the survival of these monkeys. This has been condensed from a Bubblews article.

Amazing really. It is all the more intriguing considering that only a small percentage of these creations come in our life on a day to day basis.

@JudyEv It is of concern to us! That is something that sows the wind and reaps the whirlwind.

Logging is contributing to the demise of the Howler as well. I guess as long as somebody gets rich, that's what matters most.
