What do you think about during a massage?

Perth, Australia

I love getting massages. It just feels good and helps my back and neck since I get pains there often. But as much as I love relaxing my body, my mind often has trouble relaxing too. I still lay there thinking about some worries and stressing about things I need to do or should have done. I swear the brain is one of the most difficult things in the world to switch off. What about you? Do you get massages often? What do you think about?

I don't get massages done. I have never had a professional massage actually. I wish!

@LovingMyBabies I'm sorry you don't get them. I am wanting to do a massage course soon! If we lived closer I would have picked you to practice on for free. You deserve it anyway.

@Orson_Kart lol sometimes it does hurt actually. I always ask for a soft massage because how they usually do it is definitely not relaxing. Feels like they are trying to torture you more than relax you.

Have you ever been in a Turkish hamam? First you go into a sauna-like steam bath and then you're massaged from your scalp down to your toes. I can't say what I'm thinking during a message. I just let my thoughts flow.

@MALUSE I've never had a massage like that. I mean, I do get the full body massage which is scalp to ankle but don't get the sauna part of it. That would be nice though! I love saunas / steam rooms.

It depends on who is giving me a massage! I could have dirty thoughts on my mind, or I could just completely turn my brain off. It all just depends on who is giving the massage, and why I'm getting a massage in the first place! haha

@VivaLaDani13 So what does cross the mind of the regular visitor to the masseur or masseuse?

@pgntwo I think about things I need to do whether it's cleaning up parts of the house, or catching up with MyLot, meeting up with family or friends. Then I start thinking about them hoping they are ok. I start thinking about my future and what I should be doing now and things I should have done in the past. It just doesn't stop.

@VivaLaDani13 I would love a professional massage. I have a massage recliner, but it's nothing like a real massage would be. I've never had the money or opportunity for it.

@just4him I'm sorry. I truly hope one day you can experience one. I get one every now and then as I often have neck pain which can cause headaches and back pain often too. I have to get soft massages though because my body hurts for some reason if it's too hard.

@just4him Do you not want one for a specific reason or massages just aren't your thing? This is a very late reply, I'm sorry. Just going through all my posts again to see if I've missed anything.

I have never had a massage–well, not professionally. The only massages I've had were about a 30 seconds massages on my shoulders.

@VivaLaDani13 Well these massages are by mostly lady friends who are just basically saying hi–if you know what I mean. They aren't really massages per se. Having a good long massage might be nice but for me that's a luxury I can't really afford.

@RichardMeister ah gotcha! And yeah some of the prices are just ridiculous. There are some places you can get a full body massage for 1 hour for about $65 whereas other places charges about $120. It's too expensive.

@RichardMeister I'm too greedy when it comes to massages. 30 seconds is way too short for me. Do you enjoy the massage anyway on your shoulders even if it is quick?

@Daljinder I wish the massages I gave myself felt as good as when other people did it! Because reading that made me really want one lol I had a sore leg once because I hurt it while dancing and it was painful too having it massaged but it was pretty much cured once the massage was over. I didn't even tell her about it. She spent more time on it too so I guess she must have felt something there.

@VivaLaDani13 In that case, when I am getting head massage, I get veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery sleepy. My head is one place that carries majority of the stress. A good massage makes my head feel light. A leg massage is when I have over worked my legs and my muscles there are tightened into knots. *shivers* The massage that loosens those knots is painful. But so very rewarding!

I try to relax and clear my mind of all things while I'm at the spa but sometimes that's impossible considering the fact that all my muscles are relaxed and it cause me to think better and that's when I go to thinking bout things that I need to get done.

@Brittnyrose That's why I often think about doing everything I need to do first and then going for a massage so it's less to think about and feels more deserving.

I don't get them often at all. I think I've only gone to a professional twice. Although my husband has given me a massage a couple of times as well a long time ago. As relaxing as it is, my mind will wonder. It can be hard for my mind to just shut off and relax.
