Oh my, myLot!

Today has been a terrible day for new users. They have broken all the rules. One tried to sell stuff in a foreign language. Another told a joke. The joke was plagiarized. Another said who knows what. It was not English. I can't forget to mention the guy selling massages, either. There will be a flood of reports made. I'm wondering if anyone reads the guidelines before they start. Maybe they should have to sign something saying they read and understand the guidelines before allowed to make their first post.

I want to write a song...it is already picturized on Audrey Hepburn...but I want to write it ..All I want is a broom somewhere..newbie go away from myLot's lair, with one enormous sweep we shall send you out of mylot dear.. You should be reading some guidelines here, you should be asking some questions too If you can't follow something that is written there can't you watch how others are writing here. All I want is a broom somehwere.. Sorry for plagiarizing...

It does sound like a song, in a way. We all started here sometime so newbies are welcome. Sometimes, they become more like old friends.

I think that would be a good idea but some would most likely break the rules either way.

@akalinus For some the thought is that it will still get exposure for the brief time before it is taken down.

Thanks! Some just come on here to pitch their agenda or sell something. It does not help them to do it here.

They would just sign it and say they read it and didn't if that was mandatory... Maybe instead new users could have to take a quiz on mylot rules after reading the FAQ before writing their first post.

@DaddyEvil Sometimes what we think is a violation is not so with Admin and vice versa and this discourages me from reporting.

Honestly, Always smiling, it isn't strange at all that people use a site without ever bothering to read the rules. That is how they live life. They expect the people who follow the rules to either fix their "mistakes" for them or to ignore the rule breaking. That is what our society has trained them to do. Ignore everything! Someone else can fix it for you or they can just ignore that you've done it wrong. Others will see that one breaking the rules and getting away with breaking the rules, so then they do that, too! myLot is just as guilty of doing that as every other place or site on this planet. I can show you "Discussions" on myLot that break the rules here, but when you flag them the Moderators here just take the flag off and let the post go. They don't care that rules are being broken. They just know that their favorite buddy wrote that and he doesn't make mistakes! I have flagged one post here three times and the only thing that happens is my flag is removed. I go by it the next day and can flag it all over again! That sure teaches people what the right thing to do is, right? Okay, I believe I am calm again, Always smiling. (I know you aren't here right this minute, but it still feels like you were and you listened to me rant for a minute or two.) Thank you for that. I really do appreciate it. I have no clue what to do about the problem, but at least I've said something about the problem. Thank you, again. You are always so nice and accepting.

@DaddyEvil I remember a post that many people reported. The admins in their wisdom decided to leave it up anyway.

@akalinus Why is that? Simple: because way too many here don't know the Guidelines and can't recognise a violation. Then there are the others who see it as 'snitching' and don't report anything and hope admin won't notice either

@akalinus Never was a truer word said! Sadly no-one will read your comment as it is too long and appears in a comment thread and people don't have time to read

Besides the guidelines there are many members here who try to help the newcomers , but to no avail. They just don't listen! they also will get nothing for their efforts , have their discussions deleted , or worse get kicked off the site. with no one to blame but themselves

I do tell them when they break the rules. Sometimes, it just takes a few words to set them straight. Others just do what they want until they get kicked off.

Basically that IS what they do, Judy. The first sentence in the Terms of Use Agreement for myLot says: "If you wish to become a Member, you must read this Agreement and indicate your acceptance during the Registration process." So when they began using this site, they didn't need to tick the box. Using this site means they agreed to all terms and conditions listed by myLot.

People will read, but not understand, and that is part of the issue of having a multinational site. I will say that the valuable members learn from their mistakes, the other kind are banned or give up. I guess we just keep on reporting.

@sumit21 That is true. Many think they can write a bunch of posts and make money. Here, we make money when people respond to our posts. There aren't that many rules but some want to break them.

If you haven't done it, you should. Rules are rules and you will break them if you don't know about them.
