A Lovely Tune Spoilt Forever

I saw a photo today of a ballerina in a tutu and was reminded of a funny incident which totally ruined any future enjoyment of a particular piece of music.
Some years ago, we went to a local revue run by the local CWA (Country Women's Association). One of the acts involved eight or ten of the husbands dancing a completed routine.
These brawny farmers were dressed as ballerinas, in pink outfits complete with tutus. But they did their act, prancing and dancing across the stage, in their work boots to the music of 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies'. I've never been able to hear that lovely music since without thinking of those less-than-graceful 'fairies'.
So do you have any songs that have been ruined for you in some way?
The photo is of our Music Shack in Donnybrook, Western Australia, where our next outdoor concert will be held in just nine days time.

Funny dancing to the tune of a classy song is murder of the first order.

@topffer As long as if that was his own composition that would be fine but here it was not so.

@allknowing It was his own composition, but maybe not compliant with the part done by the choreographer, Marius Petipa.

Sometimes it is the "changing" of the lyrics that can totally ruin a song.

@Morleyhunt When Vince was in the dance band there were a couple of songs that regularly got the lyrics or a few words changed.

That is true and there have been some very funny parodies done on some lovely old songs.

I can see how that music will forever be associated with those big brawny fellows now. I remember seeing a skit on the Muppet Show where Miss Piggy danced with Rudolph Nureyev - Swan Lake I think it was. It was very funny, but didn't spoil the music for me.

@Tampa_girl7 Yes, I realised that was what you meant. The concerts are a bit hard to video as the performers are always flooded with light and you get a lot of wind noise in the video too sometimes.

Oh my!! I will not say the pieces have been ruined for me, but as I was growing up many children's cartoons were done with classical music as the background. I could not even list the names of all of them but at times my mind will catch a tune and see Sylvester cat chasing Tweety Bird up the stairs, or whatever. Then there are other pieces that were themes for some of my favorite movies and so I feel lovely and romantic about Rachmaninoff for that reason.

'Ruined' was probably the wrong word really. Just whenever I hear some tunes, these memories come flooding back.

Tutus and work boots, that's an idea. I hope that there were not children still believing in fairies in the room.
There is a parody of the Ride of the Valkiries written for a big band called "Drunken Walkyries" that I recommend if you hate Wagner's music. Here a short extract.

No... but I think what they did was funny... but I can see how it would be difficult to get that image out of your head when you hear that piece of music..

'Spoil' was a bad choice really; more like 'brings to mind'.

I am seeing them in my head ... I suspect that the next time I hear that music the image will return! Yikes!
