Dental Update: The patient is doing well

First off, my husband was called into the dental office at 1 PM. When he still had not come out by 1:45 PM I got worried. Finally 2 PM he came out and was given instructions on eating, pain meds, etc. The oral surgeon said the tooth was fractured, which is why it had to come out. The only bad part was it came out in pieces, many pieces. The dentist said he got all but maybe 1 percent, which is so far deep in the gum it won't be an issue. We had to stop to get him a milk shake to coat his stomach in case he had to take a pain med which we also had to stop at the pharmacy for. That was a waste, as so far he has had no pain at all. He said he slept fine, no hurting, no indication of the work that was done. Now for the cost, which we assumed would be high due to our lousy dental insurance. Well, it turns out the insurance is lousy when it comes to my quarterly dental visits for gum cleaning, but they covered the whole cost of the extraction. All it cost us was $15 co-pay. That alone made it feel a lot less painful from the get-go! He still has to be careful not to chew on that side of his mouth, but other than that everything is normal and I hope it stays that way! Their office was beautiful and everyone was friendly, kind and helpful. Photo from Pixabay

I am glad that everything went fine, it is better not to chew on that side of his mouth for another couple of days, just to be sure not to have problems.

@AbbyGreenhill This is a good thing to do, to avoid infection.

@LadyDuck Yes, that's the reason. I do have to 'remind' him gently.

He knows that - and he still has to gargle with salty water after each time he eats.

Wow that is great that your husband isn't in pain from the extraction especially since it came out in pieces. Also good news it didn't cost a fortune

What a great outcome. Every time I had teeth out they bled for at least a day. It was always a real trauma.

My daughter had several teeth extracted recently. She had three infections in her body. When the anitbiotic was done she was able to get into the dentist. That was an awful time for her. Sick and teeth hurting. Can you imagine? A $15 copay is not bad at all. Wish I had insurance to pay for all I need done at the dentist. Oh happy day. Glad the dentist visit went well.

Outstanding that your hubby is feeling good and 15 bucks is not hard to swallow.

Thanks, $15 is like nothing compared to the 'actual' cost. I didn't ask what it would be w/o insurance, I'll know when we get their monthly statement.

I hear you. Dental procedures are a pain. I had a root canal and a crown and had to pay over 300 because my insurance would not cover it. Pathetic.
