Can you share some tips on getting your discussion to be a hot discussion.

I would say: Write your topics about subjects that draw the attention of the other members. Always choose a subject that enables interaction.
However, this may not always work, because the interaction depends on the people who are online and as there are people from all over the world, the time zones are - very - different.

I never know what is popular and gets lots of interaction until I make the post.

Every posted discussion appears in the hot list if it has responses...and maybe if it doesn't but am not sure on that one.
What I assume you mean is getting near the top of that list.
Generally requires quite a few responses and comments in the 24 hours since it was posted.
If it's a very slow day here you could get near the top with 20 responses or so as long as you're getting back to people and they're in turn talking back to you.
If it's a very bust day to get in the top 5 you may need 30-50 responses...it all varies really.

@workathomefan Every started discussion is in the hot list.
You've got 2 in the hot list right now...just waaaaay down the list.
Easy to see...just scroll down the hot list and 2 of your discussions are there....so YES...every started discussion is on the list somewhere if it gets responses.
Go to explore then hot and scroll down the list...your first discussion on there is about a free dinner at an italian restaurant the second is this one....BOTH on the list of hot discussions just nowhere near the top.

Sometimes the day you start a discussion it is not hot but 24-48 hours as responses grow it becomes hot.Every discussion started does not become hot but when you first post a discussion it will be recent or no response discussion.
