Western Australia's 'Big' Ram

Wagin, Western Australia, is another Australian country town that has a 'giant' as a tourist attraction. Recently I wrote about the giant galah that stands in Kimba, South Australia. The Big Ram stands in an attractive park in the Great Southern town. Wagin is about 225km south-east of our capital, Perth. The ram was 'opened' in 1985 and is an imposing structure commemorating the reliance of the area on wool and sheep. The ram stand seven metres high and is 15 metres long. Wool is an important industry for Australia. In its early history it was often said that 'Australia rode on the sheep's back'. No wonder Herc is a bit arrogant at times. Herc is not arrogant, but he surely knows to be "important". This is a huge statue.

Herc has a strongly developed sense of self-worth - and that's being polite.

@JudyEv Have Herc seen the big statue? NO, it's better he does not see it.

@LadyDuck It mightn't do his ego much good to see such a ram!

We were taken to a shearing place in Cairn and attached to that place there was a store where they were selling lanolin cream. Since I do not use any cream I did not buy but others did. What about Herc? Is he sheared as well and if so do you use that wool?

He is shorn each year but we do not keep the wool. It isn't of very good quality and we have no use for it. My father always had lovely soft hands because he handled sheep all the time.

This is something we should be doing here in the UK. I'd love to see massive statues of historical significance as i entered every town. Certainly more interesting than a McDonald's or an abandoned warehouse which is what we normally get as we approach towns and cities.

You have a giant chook in Dorking. I'll post about it - just for you! I'm just not sure about the 'historical significance'.

Are you sure there is no 'mad carver' wandering the outback and residents wake up one morning and find a huge sculpture on the doorstep!

I need to check around here, I am sure there must be some of these giants as well. You have done a great job of introducing the ones you saw on your travels.

That's very interesting. Actually our city has a fairy tale about five rams. And therefore we also have a very big statue of five rams. It is the logo of my city You can see this statue as my attached image here.

Yes, they are taking something that is relevant to the area and using that as a focus.
