Wagin, Western Australia, is another Australian country town that has a 'giant' as a tourist attraction. Recently I wrote about the giant galah that stands in Kimba, South Australia.
The Big Ram stands in an attractive park in the Great Southern town. Wagin is about 225km south-east of our capital, Perth. The ram was 'opened' in 1985 and is an imposing structure commemorating the reliance of the area on wool and sheep.
The ram stand seven metres high and is 15 metres long. Wool is an important industry for Australia. In its early history it was often said that 'Australia rode on the sheep's back'. No wonder Herc is a bit arrogant at times.

We were taken to a shearing place in Cairn and attached to that place there was a store where they were selling lanolin cream. Since I do not use any cream I did not buy but others did.
What about Herc? Is he sheared as well and if so do you use that wool?

I wonder how big a sweater that wool could make.

This is something we should be doing here in the UK. I'd love to see massive statues of historical significance as i entered every town. Certainly more interesting than a McDonald's or an abandoned warehouse which is what we normally get as we approach towns and cities.

I need to check around here, I am sure there must be some of these giants as well. You have done a great job of introducing the ones you saw on your travels.

A ton of wool could be sheared from that big boy!

You should put an even bigger statue of Herc at the entrance to your property!

Yes, they are taking something that is relevant to the area and using that as a focus.
