My Freedom Day

Today is 'My Freedom Day' and it has made me wonder what freedom really is. It certainly isn't being free to do whatever I may be able to do, or want to do. There are rules that prevent us from doing whatever we like, laws that protect us and our community but give at least areas of freedom in which we can do our own thing without harming or restricting the freedom of others. I haven't enjoyed much freedom myself today because my husband needed the car, so I was housebound. I had a number of jobs to do so I wasn't free to spend any time on myLot. Tomorrow I will have the car so maybe I will celebrate my Freedom Day then!

Some of us are only free when it doesn't impinge on someone else. I saw an interview on TV with a North Korean girl who had escaped with her family through Mongolia. It was horrific to hear her story. No freedom there.

We probably take the comparative freedoms we enjoy every day for granted until we hear such interviews as you describe.

@JudyEv People complain in the UK about the health care but it comes free and I took it for granted until I came here.

@41CombedaleRoad That's true. Like I take Australia's healthcare system for granted until I hear about America's.

Life does get in the way of freedom days doesn't it?

There is often no escape from duties, and responsibilities unless we choose to become hermits and that would be a lonely life.

@celticeagle I've never really understood why people want to live in isolation.

I do not mind being stuck at home, I prefer to be home really. I could easily be a home body and never leave.

Now that is a good way to look at it. When you celebrate your Freedom Day tomorrow do exactly what you want to do, eat your favorite foods and just really enjoy yourself.

Everyone needs a freedom day every once in a while. I hope you enjoyed yours. We take our freedom forgranted.
