I really hate to think about it but unsavory it may be I have to deal with it while there is still time. This is all about preparation for that uninvited event we call calamity, natural disasters which can bring traumatic memories to those who has gone through it, like me. Many times, I have been rehearsing and keeping tabs on something I can grab in a moment's notice when the time to bug out comes. Here's my list: 1. Foodstuffs that can stay fresh for at least three days; 2. Potable water in a five liter jar; 3. Non-prescription and prescription medicine, first aid kit box; 4. Blankets, clothing, underwear for three days; 5. VHF-UHF-FM radio with spare battery, solar charged power bank; 6. Flashlight, whistle, signalling devices; 7. Knife, multi-tool, hunting paraphernalia, binoculars; 8. Tent, portable stove, lighter, fire-building kit; 9. All-Terrain Vehicle. It may look like a vacation plan, call it a getaway trip or just a time to get from the sights and sounds of the city but it may serve a good start to exercise for what may be the real thing when survival is of the essence. Honestly, some of the things listed here are not in a bag but are lying around and may take time to pack in a bag. I have to to do it as soon as possible. I don't even have the ATV yet. Weight is also important to get to the rendezvous point in the shortest possible time. Any suggestion, comment, addition, or deletion to the list is most welcome, it may help you too so lets hear it. Addendum: Forgot firearms and ammo, file folder of important documents, rope, cats, and dogs.

I had been doing and practicing prepping for years, the way I see it in my area is more of bag in than bag out, but I do not know in other parts of our country where people need to move to evacuation centers.

Evac centers can become crowded and too noisy, more danger than being in a private hideaway. I may go there to get rations but I hate to stay in one.

@rog0322 I do not want to depend on our government and compete with people who did not prepare, so I stock pile on my own and have my own family plan and also have plans with close buddies who think like us.

I'm in Ontario, so if a big disaster happens here there's a decent chance I might need a gas mask. I would also include duct tape, and a few photos of family. Can't pack the cat, but I would pack food for her because I know no matter what happens I will always want her with me :)

That's for a chemical attack maybe, and yes the pets, they hate being left behind too. They need to be in a well-ventilated box.
