Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White....

United States
March 15, 2017 6:56am CST
....when you're in love. An old love song!! But some things won't be so cherry pink this year. While tourists by the thousands visit Washington, DC to see the cherry blossoms in bloom this year it may be a non-show for blooms. It sounds like yesterday's bone chilly weather mixed with snow and sleet may have killed off a good percentage of the blooms before they developed fully. While there are thousands of things to see and do in DC the cherry blossoms are high on the lists of many tourists. Hopefully some will survive and tourists and locals alike can enjoy their beauty. That is a real shame. I do hope that some of them have survived the bad weather.

Due to the warm weather they started to open too early so many are gone.

@Happy2BeMe We are lucky here that we didn't plant anything yet as it would have been killed lst night in the 19 degrees.

I heard that on the news yesterday too. What a shame. We always hope that doesn't happen to our peach and cherry tree. Occasionally it does though.

Lots of trees have been blooming here but none of ours so I think any flowering trees we have will be safe.

@AbbyGreenhill Too early here for that but next month they will, I'm hoping for no more freezing temps once mine do. I really want my new cherry tree to produce.

Perez Prado's recording of Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White was the #1 song of 1955.

Yes they were scheduled to be at their peek next week I believe of course all the tourists already have their plans, so they will have to just enjoy the Mall and the Tidal Basin sans blooms.

It is sad when freezing temps can kill Spring Blossoms that have started to spring due to unseasonably warm weather.

I am glad our redbuds were not blooming - or they would have been killed these last few days.

So pretty In my state, it's tecoma at full bloom right now. The flowers only bloom around February and March and quite famous as tourist attraction. We can only view them in the city, where they planted the trees in huge number. I feel like living in Japan whenever I was in the area Image credit:

I never ever went to DC to see the cherry blossoms. Seems like they might be a big disappointment this year if the cold winter killed off the blossoms
