River got same status as human being

This is an interesting move in New Zealand. They have passed a bill to grant the same legal rights as human for their third largest river Whanganui. I think similar moves should be taken in India and other countries where rivers gets polluted heavily. In my idea, the condition in developed country slightly different. In past, Indians used to consider the rivers as Goddess. In fact, still the Ganga is treated as one of sacred river and Goddess. But with time, people are not worshipping God as they used to do in past. So, it's time to change our views. Let's give the rivers human status and they will have similar legal rights to live a healthy and safe life. (pic - google)

That's a rather novel idea but it sounds very sensible.

@ichchhe_mrityu It's hard to know if it will make any difference. we have a river in Australia that, if you light a match, the water 'burns' because of the chemicals which have been poured into the river.

That's the problem with us. Hope once we will start treating them human beings may be we be able to protect them from pollution. But in my opinion making law is not sufficient we need to follow it strictly to get the results.

Making a low is never sufficient. Implementation of the law is important. At the same time we need to educate people.

Thats a great law to pass. I hope we got the same here. I like to see the river with fishes and blue water. But now it stinks and the color is black.

we human used to worship rivers for our needs. But as the science is developing and making our life easy and comfortable, we all now just want to sit in the corner of our rooms and move nowhere else. May this is also a reason that river is not seeking attention. we have become so comfortable with our lifestyle that we now care for nothing rather than just ourselves.

That is why we need t change it from God to human... the river will have representative to get the proper legal rights so that nobody can fill up the river with wastes.

@ichchhe_mrityu well the approach seems to be great. but at the same time it will need good laws and so the followers.

@AnthOcean The news states that there will be 2 representatives for the river. Now, Human legal status mean, the river will be considered as human in legal systems. So you know, the rules automatically applies which are already there for a human being.
