Ordered my Groceries Online

Our local grocery story just started a new online grocery delivery service. They gave everyone a coupon for $20 off a $35 grocery online grocery order, just so we would sign up. I tried the service today. My husband and I looked through the pantry and refrigerator and ordered everything we felt we needed ... which was quite a bit, since one of our daughters and her family just spent the past week here. Within two hours, the groceries had arrived! There was only one problem ... they brought me three ears of corn instead of three bananas! However, the delivery person is going to change them out for me later this afternoon, so it all will work out. I don't know if I will use this service often, but it will be handy to know how to do it if I ever need surgery or can't get out of the house for some reason. In the future, it won't be such a good deal, since I won't have the coupon and, today, I also got free delivery. However, in an emergency, it is great to have this service available. Have you ever ordered groceries online?

I've never tried it but have always been tempted to. Usually I like to go and pick out my own stuff and substitute if I don't find what I need. Sometimes I see coupons for the first delivery and maybe one of these days I'll give it a try. I have a friend who uses it all the time and loves it.

@Marilynda1225 - I can see how it could be very useful in the future, especially if I develop any problems which make it hard to get out. It was fun!

@TheInvisibleMan - I can understand that. I think that, most of the time, it is best to be able to pick your own fruits and vegetables.

As long as the quality is good all is well. When we physically visit a store we take hours to pick the best.

@alknowing - Yes, visiting the store ourselves is definitely the best choice. But it is nice to have the option of ordering, especially if there is ever a problem.

@allknowing - More and more, it is easier to shop online instead of in the stores, which is why stores like Macy's and Sears are having so many problems.

I do not think that online grocery shopping is an option in our area currently. But, like you pointed out, in a pinch, that would be a wonderful service. Last year I was very sick for several weeks, in bed, with pneumonia, now my husband did the shopping and cooking, but if I were single or a widow, that would be an ideal service. Mind you I would want what I ordered and not someone else's cornbut at least they are righting that wrong, and it being a new service you're bound to find something wrong.

@DeborahDiane Yeah, it sounds like they are quite good at the service that they are offering. It should be interesting to see if this concept takes off over the next few years.

@Juliaacv - They give you choices in delivery times. I think it would be great for people who work. They could order their groceries during their lunch hour and have them delivered after they get home! I'll be surprised if it doesn't become even more popular in the future.

@Juliaacv - Yes, I wasn't really bothered by the mix-up, especially since they are going to bring me the bananas! Everyone makes mistakes.

@RubyHawk - That what I thought ... it could be handy if I was sick. In addition, my husband has kidney disease and, if he decided to do home dialysis in the future, someone is supposed to stay home with him while he is on it. I thought it would be handy to know how to order groceries, if we are ever in that situation.

@RubyHawk - I rarely buy groceries at Walmart, unless I happen to be in the store anyway. However, it might be worth it for me to check out what Walmart charges and compare the prices.

Yes, I have ordered groceries online and would do it again. Its good when your sick and don't want to make everyone else sick at the store. Glad the company is quickly making the exchange, so you receive what you ordered. Free delivery and a coupon is a good way to try out a grocery delivery service, as money is saved and there is food in the house.

Oh! Everything seems online now! I do ordered some groceries online too. Because they gave that time a $10.00 voucher, free delivery and a 5% cashback. Now, I went back to traditional stores. Delivery fee is quite expensive

We ordered groceries for a friend in this manner through Publix. She had just returned from the hospital and we thought some goodies for the pantry would be clever. She loved the idea. It is a great idea and we would do it again. However, apparently there is an independent group that does the order taking and delivering and they at one point charged a membership fee of $149 to the credit card used. They said it was a yearly fee for me to be able to use the service. Oh course, they got notice from me as did my credit card that it was not authorized. Just a heads up!

I had an introductory coupon for a percentage off and free delivery. I also ordered last fall for the second time. It's good in an emergency, however I prefer choosing my own fresh produce.

@DianneN - I agree that it is good in an emergency, but I prefer to choose my own produce, too. Besides, when I want bananas, I certainly don't want to get corn, instead! I think this could be handy, however, if my husband's illnesses get worse and I want to be by his side, I thought I should know how to do this.

Good to know it worked well other than corn instead of bananas. -- was there a fee for it? I wanted to awhile back when I was sick - only had a few items and didn't want to go out. But then I saw there was , like a 5 hour window of time or something - in between placing the order and getting your food and I wanted orange juice right away... lol

@FayeHazel - I had a coupon for this purchase, so I did not have to pay the fee. Otherwise, it would have been a $5.99 delivery charge PLUS a 10% service charge. I would not do it on a normal basis, but in an emergency it would handy to use. The groceries arrived within two hours, so that part was good.
